Do you ever lie awake at night and worry? It is time to stop. It is a worthless waste of time. It pushes you away from God.
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Jesus tells us to first look his (God’s) kingdom: the place where God is the king. If God is love, then Love is King in the Kingdom of God. Look first for this realm where Love is in control. Also, look first for the virtues of Love (“his righteousness”), and everything else in your life will fall into place. It seems too simple to be true? In many ways it probably is too simple for us to grasp. Our lives, our minds, our spirits have become overly complicated. Why? We created a web of confusion by not just focusing on what matters: LOVE.
Where is this place of Love? Where is this kingdom? It is right here. It is in our hearts. When John the Baptist preached, he proclaimed that the the Kingdom of Heaven was near. Jesus, the King, was near. Then Jesus came. He conquered death through his sacrifice and resuurection, and he is now King. He is king where anyone allows him to be King. He will come and rule where anyone wishes him to do so. It is up to us. We choose. Do you want Love or worry?
Now here is a sermon to myself: stop being constantly consumed with fear about your life: your health (food), your happiness (drink/wine), your image (clothes). Your spiritual life is more important than your physical one–which needs food, drink, and clothing in order to survive. Your spirit–true Life–needs Love in order to survive. So, instead of spending your energy on worry, (which improves nothing), spend your energy on finding the realm where Love is in control. God is love. Look deep within your heart and ask the King of Love to come into your life. When you do this first, everything else will fall into place.
Prayer: Show me where Love rules. Take me there.
